About Continuing Education

The Coastal Bend Health Education Center's Continuing Education (CE) department first achieved accreditation by the Texas Medical Association in September 2001. Since that time, the program has successfully reached thousands of physicians and allied health professionals within its 19-county service area, the Rio Grande Valley and beyond.

In January of 2011, the program received approval by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) to serve as an ACPE-accredited provider of continuing pharmacy education. With this designation, the department conducts continuing pharmacy education activities designed to support the continued professional development of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to help them maintain and enhance their expertise.

With a mission dedicated to providing quality education to the medical community, the CE department works year-round to develop and deliver major conferences, dinner lectures, recurring lectureship series, peer reviews and special one-time events. More than 120,000 credit hours were awarded to physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other healthcare professionals by the CE department during the 2013 fiscal year.

Providing guidance and expertise, the CME and CPE Advisory Committees are comprised of area physicians and pharmacists from all specialties. The committees meet quarterly to determine the medical and pharmacy education needs for both urban and rural health care professionals.
