Wellness Program
If you have attended a class from our diabetes self-management education (DSME) program, your health educator says you need to be physically active for at least 150 minutes per week. You may wonder how you’re going to fit that amount of time into your weekly routine, but it’s not as difficult as you might think.
Our Wellness Program offers practical, common sense solutions to help you put into action what you have learned in class. Whether you’re just beginning your exercise journey, or you already are physically active, our certified personal trainer will provide you with practical knowledge on how to fit exercise into your daily life to help you maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
This class series is offered free of charge.
How does the program work?
If you have taken our DSME class, you are already eligible for the Wellness Program. You will receive an assessment from our certified personal trainer to determine your fitness level and whether you’ll need additional clearance from your physician.
The program lasts 12 weeks, with two hour-long class meetings per week. A majority of the class time is spent exercising, which will help you start the healthy habit of physical activity. When not in class, you will be able to take advantage of home workout plans provided by your instructor.
New classes begin every six weeks. Whether you are retired or work during the day, there are several time slots available to fit into your schedule. Class sizes typically range from eight to ten participants.
